Life-of-field systems pose dilemma for operators keen for information

NO NEWS is bad news when it comes to logging the evolution of life-of-field seismic systems designed to provide regular data on the performance of a producing reservoir.

It means that oil companies continue to agonise over the technology options and economic value of the life-of-field seismic solutions on offer without coming to any conclusion.

About the only positive whisper in recent months was the BP contract awarded in November to UK-based Stingray Geophysical to carry out two feasibility studies on the UK Clair and Schiehallion fields, west of Shetland.

Stingray offers the Forsar seismic permanent reservoir monitoring system based on fibre-optic technology originally developed for defence applications.
