The meteoric rise fo shale gas has been a complete game-changer for the energy industry. Nowhere has this been more prevelant than in the US, spurring the nation to look away from surging liquefied natural gas import plans.

The shale sector could account for up to half of North America’s natural gas production by the end of the decade, according to one source, while the US Energy Information Administration predicts that half of the natural gas produced in the US will be from unconventional sources by 2030.

Shale gas production in the US and Canada could also play a political role, by helping prevent Russia and Middle East nations pursue higher prices for gas exports to Europe, according to a study by the Baker Institute of Public Policy at Rice…
