Hendry pushing for special relationship with energy industry

Outlook: UK energy minister Charles Hendry aims to encourage more investment, aided by UK Chancellor George Osborne who offered Tax concessions for E&P companies in this year's budget.

UK Energy Minister Charles Hendry is working hard to foster a new relationship between government and the North Sea oil and gas industry that will be vital to securing the country’s energy supplies in the years ahead.

Hendry has sought to put Pilot, the main organisation for the interaction between government and industry, at the forefront of the new era.

Gone are the days, he hopes, of Pilot being little more than a talking shop.

“We are now really focusing on the work streams that will determine the success of the basin,” Hendry says.

“And those are issues that will encourage the new investment which is characterising the North Sea today.”

The latest Pilot Summit was due to take place this week in Aberdeen, after Upstream went to press.
