Canada leads by example

WHILE US players are behind their Canadian counterparts when it comes to putting enhanced oil recovery to work in tight liquids plays, many see it as a necessary next step in the evolution of the US industry, writes Noah Brenner.

The Alberta Bakken is more conducive to EOR techniques than the US side of the play because it tends to be comprised of a more porous silty limestone rather than the tighter carbonates and shales found in the middle Bakken in North Dakota.

However, PetroBakken’s Rene LaPrade believes that the US side could respond to EOR techniques as well.

US tight oil giant EOG Resources has been among the first to consider how to enhance oil recovery in the US Bakken play.
