Capability the key to opening up the world

Subsea 7 calls the pipelay and heavy-lift construction vessel Seven Borealis its new “strategic enabler”, and says the unit’s capabilities will lead the way into contracts around the world.

Gael Cailleaux, Subsea 7’s vice president for offshore resource, says: “This will allow us to get a contract for a client because we have a specific capability to do it. Behind the ‘enabler’ will come the other vessels required to complete the work.”

He adds: “Pipelay [capability] is often the enabler. Whoever has the pipelay capabilities is usually the frontrunner for the contract.”

While Borealis has been built primarily to address the subsea pipeline installation market, the vessel’s mast crane is expected to see it develop into a significant force in the multi-use…
