Jubilant is upbeat at potential in old fields

Jubilant ­Energy has great expectations for its north-east Indian portfolio, which includes the oil producing Kharsang field and exploration acreage in the states of Tripura and Manipur.

Some of India’s oldest onshore oilfields exist in this part of the country. Most are operated by state-owned Oil India, and Jubilant believes that the region still holds a strong potential that is waiting to be unlocked.

“We see extremely high potential in the north-east. Apart from the Krishna Godavari basin, all our key assets are in the north-eastern region,” says Jubilant chief executive Ajay Khandelwal.

North-east India hosts a number of proven and producing basins such as Assam Arakan, Tripura and Cachar, which have made a significant contribution to India’s hydrocarbon production.
