India fights to meet rising gas demand

India’s thirst for liquefied natural gas is increasing as domestic supplies fail to keep pace with rising demand.

LNG’s share of the Indian gas market has increased to almost 25%, with supplies ranging as high as 55 million to 60 million cubic metres per day, and analysts are upbeat that this is likely to carry on increasing substantially.

The country’s regasification capacity is expected to increase to 48 million tonnes in the next five years from the existing 13.5 million tonnes.
