Energy in the blood of man for future

Kevin Ramnarine did not grow up in Trinidad & Tobago’s vital energy industry, but he starts each day with a keen understanding of the importance of both the industry and his role as Energy Minister for the island nation.

Born on the eastern side of Trinidad, far from the downstream industrial complexes that line its western shores, Ramnarine thought he might become a doctor or a lawyer.

But, as a Trinidad native, energy was already in his blood.

Oil production began in 1908 and has since seen a parade of international players come in, drill wells, leave and return. Ramnarine counts himself as a ­student of both domestic and international energy history.

“That history is part of the culture of the country,” he says.
