The decision follows more than a decade of unsuccessful exploration and appraisal work to prove up commercially viable gas reserves in the Rub Al-Khali desert.
“Shell has decided to end further investment in the Kidan development,” the company said.
“This was a difficult decision but Shell remains committed to (Saudi Arabia) and we are keen to grow our investments, both in upstream and downstream.”
