The world’s largest offshore drilling contractor by fleet size is expected to sign a newbuild deal during the current quarter for two firm drillship orders plus options for another three units.

The first drillship is targeted for delivery within 36 months from the award of the contract, with the four others to follow in 12 month intervals.

The five drillships on Transocean’s latest newbuild plan will be built for operations with 15,000 psi blowout-preventers, according to sources.
