Sri Lanka’s Cabinet has approved a proposal by Power & Energy Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka to launch an international bidding process for a partner to help develop gas discoveries in Block SL 2007-01-001 in the offshore Mannar basin.
The government plans to select a new partner because operator Cairn India is expected to relinquish the acreage, sources said.
“Cairn’s work agreement for Block SL 2007-01-001 is coming to an end in October and the block will be considered relinquished after that,” one source argued.
