Watson said the next set of resource developments in Australia will need to have different characteristics to the current generation of LNG projects.

“The (LNG) markets have evolved, it has become a mature business, and there is a lot of gas (competition) out there,” said Watson.

“Australia will have to take stock of that, to recognise that (competition), and ensure that the package of standards, whether it is taxes, fiscal terms, environmental policy, workforce, all those will have to work in harmony if we’re going to make projects go forward,” he said.
