Parana-based Judge Sergio Moro upheld charges that Zelada had used an international drillship contract to garner millions of dollars in bribes, and to engage in money-laundering.
The charges related principally to a $1.82 billion Petrobras charter for the Vantage Drilling drillship Titanium Explorer, signed in 2009, but cancelled in 2015.
In the same proceedings, Moro sentenced another former Petrobras engineering executive, Eduardo Musa, to 11 years imprisonment.
