The class action is on behalf of some 13,000 seaweed farmers who allege that the 2009 Montara blowout and oil spill in Australian waters is affecting their operations in Nusa Tenggara Timur province in eastern Indonesia.

“Our investigations show that the operator of the oil rig has a serious case to answer for cutting corners that endangered lives, the environment and the livelihoods of thousands of farmers,” said Ben Slade, class actions principal at law firm Maurice Blackburn.
