It is understood that the consortium will use the Diamond Offshore drillship Ocean Clipper to drill the Ararauna wildcat in Block BM-POT-16.

The campaign will take place in about 1400 metres of water, targeting sandstone reservoirs at depths of more than 4000 metres.

“This is unequivocally a high-risk, high-reward prospect. I call a relevant discovery anything that is above 1 billion barrels of recoverable reserves, and that is the kind of the size of the target that the play incorporates,” said Galp chief executive Manuel Ferreira de Oliveira.
