The deal was signed by the Somalia President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and Soma chairman Michael Howard, a former leader of the UK’s Conservative party.
Soma will gather seismic data in portions of Somali territorial waters “agreed with the government” and in unspecified onshore areas.
However, it also has “the right to nominate and obtain exploration and other drilling rights under production sharing agreements for prospective areas”.
