The mineral resource portfolio committee met on 27 August to discuss the status of the regulations, originally published in draft form last October and made available for public comment.
Jan Glazewski, professor at the university’s Institute of Marine & Environmental Law, questioned why potentially important players in the shale gas debate did not attend the meeting.
“Government agencies... have done intensive work on the draft regulations but they were not present at the meeting,” he wrote in a letter to Business Day newspaper.
