Petrobras opens door to US party

Petrobras has invited competitive bids to deliver a floating production, storage and offloading vessel for its deep-water Cascade and Chinook field development in the Gulf of Mexico after exclusive negotiations with Dutch contractor Bluewater broke down.

A project official with Petrobras in Houston confirmed that most of the major bid packages have been put out for tender.

"We are in the middle of the tender process," he said.

The FPSO and shuttle tankers were split into two separate bid packages and went to tender in February.

The official also confirmed Bluewater is still on the bid list despite the failure to come to terms. Bluewater was originally Petrobras' preferred FPSO provider and both companies had been in exclusive talks to provide an FPSO, but an accord proved elusive.
