UK inquiry into oil tax changes

UK politicians and industry leaders have been called before a parliamentary inquiry to answer questions about the potential impact of controversial tax increases on North Sea activity, writes Rob Watts.

The cross-party Energy & Climate Change Committee will hold a one-off session on the implications of the new tax on 4 May.

Among those giving evidence will be Energy & Climate Change Secretary Chris Huhne and representatives from industry groups Oil & Gas UK and the Oil & Gas Independents’ Association.

This week, the committee asked Energy Minister Charles Hendry about the tax increases when he appeared before a separate inquiry on shale gas activity in the UK.
