Apache lines up Atwood semisubs Falcon and Eagle

US independent Apache has hired a pair of deep-water semi-submersible rigs for sustained drilling off the coast of Western Australia, writes Russell Searancke.

The company will take delivery of the semisub Atwood Falcon next May and the Atwood Eagle next July, according to rig owner Atwood Oceanics. Apache will use the Falcon for 30 months and the Eagle for 18 months.

Atwood said that with these two deals its total revenue backlog increased by $560 million, which implies the Falcon and Eagle have been let at an average dayrate of $319,000.

Apache’s exact intentions are not known, but the company has several operated field developments under way so it is likely that production wells are required…
