Shah Deniz suitors face proposals decision time

BP and Azerbaijan have started evaluating four multi-billion-­dollar proposals for carrying ­future Shah Deniz gas to Europe, aiming to select a winner by the end of the year and help reduce Europe’s dependence on Russian gas by the end of the decade.

The proposals, submitted as scheduled on 1 October, were from the Nabucco consortium, Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) and Inter-connection Turkey-Greece-Italy (ITGI).

The BP-led consortium is also looking at a fourth proposal by an in-house team.

The consortium developing Shah Deniz phase two has said it needs to make a decision on export options before the end of 2011 in order to have facilities in place for the start-up of gas production in 2017.
