THE name of the new Huisman-designed drillships — Globetrotter — is intended to reflect the fact that they can go and operate in practically any offshore basin on the planet.

The drilling tower is designed for simple and quick detachment of the top section, enabling the rig to sail under bridges with minimal hassle. The Black Sea, for instance, could absolutely be on the Globetrotter’s radar screen.

Its transit speed is a commendable 12 knots. The hulls are designed for year-round Arctic operations but, admittedly, the drillfloor set-up would require an upgrade.
