Aramco poised for new frontier in the Red Sea

Saudi Aramco is poised to start exploration drilling in the Red Sea early next years as it targets a new frontier which the company hopes will turn in significant non-associated gas discoveries.

The campaign will mark a shift in Aramco’s offshore drilling focus which has so far targeted the shallow waters of the Persian Gulf as opposed to the relatively deep Red Sea.

‘’We are undertaking a massive exploration campaign,’’ Aramco’s chief executive Khalid Al-Falih said in Doha, adding that drilling in the Red Sea will get under way in early 2012.
