Daewoo in line to win Mafumeria Sul prize

Pole position: Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering.

Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering is tipped to land a major contract to build the offshore facilities for Chevron’s 110,000 barrels per day Mafumeria Sul project off Angola.

Sources said the South Korean player is front runner to fabricate a 25,000-tonne deck and its supporting jacket for the shallow water development in Block 0 as well as a number of smaller wellhead structures.

Contract award is expected as early as March, though April is seen as the most likely date.

This is some three months later than originally planned, said an informed source.

Assuming Daewoo begins fabrication work in earnest in the middle of this year, then the platforms should be on location in 2015.
