New move by Iona for Staffa field

CANADIAN oil and gas company Iona Energy has renamed the Staffa oilfield off the UK to Kells, and has submitted the environmental statement for its development to the Department of Energy & Climate Change.

The plan for Kells, located in UK Block 3/8d, includes the drilling of two production wells tied back to CNR International’s Ninian Central platform.

The wells will be drilled about a year to 18 months apart, with the first expected in the third quarter this year.

Peter Campbell, commercial manager at Iona Energy, said: “The submission of the environmental statement is a key step in obtaining the statutory approvals for the development of the Kells field. Iona is pleased to have reached this milestone.”
