Omani output slips

Petroleum Development Oman (PDO), the largest oil producer in the Persian Gulf sultanate, saw 2011 crude output slip to 549,000 barrels per day from 553,000 barrels per day in 2010 as the company battles to sustain output from ageing fields.

The Omani government expects total output, including oil and condensate, to rise to 900,000 bpd by the end of 2012, deputy Oil Minister Nasser al-Jashmi said.

PDO, led by Shell but majority-owned by the Omani government, accounted for most of Oman’s crude output of 779,000 bpd last year.

Oman has been pushing towards a goal of lifting its oil and condensate output to 1 million bpd.
