Repsol and partners in major pre-salt find

A consortium led by Spain’s Repsol YPF and China’s Sinopec has made another ultra-deep­water oil discovery in Brazil’s Campos basin, amid suggestions that the find is potentially one of the best yet in the prolific pre-salt exploration play.

Repsol said it had found a hydrocarbons column that was “one of the thickest discovered in Brazil to date”.

The well was drilled on Block BM-C-33, and was probing the Pao de Acucar (Sugarloaf) prospect.

BM-C-33 partner Statoil called the find a “high-impact” discovery which, by definition, points to gross reserves of at least 250 million barrels of oil equivalent.

Statoil cited two pre-salt accumulations comprising a hydro­carbon column of 480 metres with total pay of around 350 metres.
