Shell plans shutdown

SHELL is planning to shut down the oil producing Mars tension-leg platform (TLP) in the Gulf of Mexico sometime during the second quarter for scheduled maintenance.

The maintenance is partly associated with the development of a second production TLP which Shell has called Mars B and Olympus.

A spokeswoman for Shell declined to specify how many days the TLP would be out of service. She described the work as “normal maintenance”.

She also would not comment on current processing rates at Mars, citing company policy.

The Mars TLP went into service in July 1996.
