THE US Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) is requesting public comment on a draft environmental impact statement released this week covering potential seismic exploration surveys, which are anticipated to take place next year off Virginia.
A
final
decision
that
would
clear
the
way
for
permitting
for
such
surveys
is
expected
before
the
end
of
this
year,
according
to
Secretary
of
the
Interior
Ken
Salazar.
Existing
geologic
data
on
the
mid
and
south
Atlantic
regions
off
the
US
coast
is
obsolete,
according
to
BOEM
director
Tommy
Beaudreau.
