THE US Bureau of Ocean Energy Management

THE US Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) is requesting public comment on a draft environmental impact statement released this week covering potential seismic exploration surveys, which are anticipated to take place next year off Virginia.

A final decision that would clear the way for permitting for such surveys is expected before the end of this year, according to Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar.

Existing geologic data on the mid and south Atlantic regions off the US coast is obsolete, according to BOEM director Tommy Beaudreau.
