Tanzania rolls sleeves up for major bid round

TANZANIA is ready to carry out a major licensing round offering at least 16 new blocks, mainly offshore, and will announce the programme to industry suitors on 23 April with consultant ION Ventures contracted to provide technical assistance.

The official launch date is set for September and bidding will close in early 2013, though the exact date remains to be decided, according to senior geologist at the Tanzania Petroleum Development Corporation, Meshack Kagya.

A data room will be opened during this month’s American Association of Petroleum Geologists annual convention in Long Beach, California.

Open tendering will also govern access to acreage relinquished this year under terms applied to licences issued before 2007.
