Battle is on to scoop Mariner job for Statoil

A QUARTET of international contractors are set to do battle to engineer and build a 26,000-tonne topsides for Statoil’s multi-billion dollar Mariner ultra-heavy oil project in the UK North Sea.

Industry sources said three of the groups comprise Kvaerner working with Heerema Fabrication Group, Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering with CB&I plus Samsung Heavy Industries partnering KBR.

Hyundai Heavy Industries is also chasing the contract to fabricate the production, drilling and quarters deck and it is understood to have joined forces with WorleyParsons.

At stake, is an order to build a major topsides designed to handle a massive 320,000 barrels per day of liquids, including 80,000 bpd of crude.
