Trinidad looks to drum up oil output support

TRINIDAD & Tobago is re-evaluating the management of its major offshore oil producing field as it looks to increase crude production and diversify away from natural gas exports.

The Trinmar field has been the most prolific in the country’s history since it was brought on line in the early 1950s, but production declines and the promise of possibly significant heavy oil reserves have left the Energy Ministry looking at other models to develop the field in the future.

The 30-year Trinmar licence, which is held wholly by state-run Petrotrin, is up for renewal in July and how that renewal process proceeds will determine the future of the country’s energy sector for decades to come.
