Lamprell scoops deal to build two rigs for Abu Dhabi

Sharjah -based engineering group Lamprell has won a $333 million contract from Abu Dhabi’s National Drilling Company (NDC) to build a further two jack-up rigs, writes Nassir Shirkhani.

NDC, which is exercising an option, currently has four rigs under construction by Lamprell. “As with the existing rigs under construction, these additional rigs will be completely outfitted and equipped, LeTourneau designed, self-elevating Mobile Offshore Drilling Platforms of a Super 116E (Enhanced) Class design,’’ Lamprell said.

The rigs will allow drilling in depths of up to 200 feet of water. They will be delivered by the end of 2014 and 2015 respectively.
