Rongsheng marks rig debut with two orders

HONG Kong-listed China Rongsheng Heavy Industries has secured orders from Singapore-based PrimePoint Oil & Gas (POG) to build two drilling rigs, marking the Chinese yard’s debut in the rig- building sector.

Industry sources said the deals, signed last week, will commit Rongsheng to building a semi-submersible barge rig and tender barge rig for delivery in 22 and 24 months.

The orders also include one option for additional units of each of the rigs, sources familiar with the deal said. Both are for shallow-water operations without DP systems.They will be the first two rigs signed for fabrication at Rongsheng, which is understood to have organised a special offshore task force with talent recruited from China and Singapore.
