NPCC poised for Upper Zakum

Abu Dhabi-based National Petrol­eum Construction Company (NPCC) is set to be awarded the offshore package for the Upper Zakum (UZ) 750 oilfield expansion project with a low bid of under $1 billion as it joins Technip to bid for a second package for construction of massive onshore facilities.

“NPCC was low bidder and it is bound to get the contract,” a source in Abu Dhabi told Upstream.

Commercial bids for the first offshore engineering, procurement and construction package were submitted to Zakum Development Company (Zadco) on 4 March.

Neither NPCC nor the client commented on early speculation over the tender results, but sources said NPCC had made the lowest price offer against competitors J Ray McDermott and Saipem.

NPCC and Zadco are now negotiating a contract, which may take weeks to finalise, the sources said.
