Chevron looks to major expansions

Chevron is eyeing ambitious expansions of both its Gorgon and Wheatstone grassroots liquefied natural gas projects in Australia, where combined capital expenditure already stands at A$72 billion (US$72.18 billion).

The US operator is aiming to move into the front-end engineering and design stage for a fourth liquefaction train at Gorgon in late 2012, but it is not known whether the FEED work will be put out to tender. “That’s something that we’re currently looking at in terms of what makes the most sense,” Chevron Australia managing director Roy Krzywosinski told Upstream.

“There are advantages to using contractors who know the scope of work, but it’s certainly not something that we’ve made a decision on yet.”
