Jupiter within sight as Petrobras renews effort

BRAZILIAN state-controlled oil company Petrobras is to resume drilling operations at the high-profile Jupiter North-East appraisal well within months in an effort to reduce uncertainties about the ultra-deepwater play.

Petrobras started drilling Jupiter North-East last year using Diamond Offshore’s drillship Ocean Clipper in water depths of 2167 metres in Block BM-S-24 in the Santos basin pre-salt zone.

Petrobras had only drilled the initial section of the well when it was forced to abruptly interrupt the campaign for the rig to undergo maintenance. It re-entered the well earlier this year but it is unclear which rig was used.
