El Paso Elba plant action

A unit of US pipeline giant El Paso has begun the process to build a liquefaction facility at its LNG import terminal on Elba Island off the US east coast.

Southern LNG has filed an application with the US Department of Energy to liquefy up to 500 million cubic feet per day of US-sourced gas for export to countries that have a free-trade agreement with the US.

El Paso and its partners have already applied to convert the Gulf LNG import facility in Pascagoula Mississippi, into a liquefaction and export operation as LNG players look to take advantage of the combination of low US gas prices and prices in Asia and Europe that can be two to four times more.
