Marathon in Boyla tie-back

US independent Marathon is getting ready to develop its Norwegian Boyla discovery as a tie-back to the North Sea Alvheim field, writes Beate Schjolberg.

Boyla, formerly called Marihone, was discovered in 2009. It contains 23 million barrels of oil equivalent, mainly oil.

The field will be tied back to the Alvheim floating production, storage and offloading vessel, which lies about 28 kilometres to the north.

The development plan calls for two production wells and a water injector, with start-up planned in the fourth quarter of 2014.

The oil will be blended with the Alvheim oil and exported via shuttle tanker, while the associated gas will be sent into the UK SAGE system.
