Iran issues just one condition for political deal with the West

Iran appears to have narrowed down its conditions for a political deal with the big powers to formal recognition of its nuclear rights, suggesting a breakthrough at the next round of talks in Moscow in mid-month, writes Vahe Petrossian.

The offer comes as the US warns that it is discussing with Israel — which has threatened to attack Iran if there is no early agreement — plans to ramp up its already tough sanctions if the Moscow talks fail.

Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei’s senior adviser and former foreign minister Ali Akbar Velayati said that if the big powers accept “Iran’s right to use peaceful nuclear energy, the forthcoming talks in Moscow should reach a favourable result”.
