Politicians given tour of Shell's Alaska vessels

Inspiring: The Ice-class drilling barge Kulluk

Elected officials from Alaska were given a tour of the rigs Shell plans to use later this year to drill for oil and gas in the Arctic’s Beaufort and Chukchi Seas.

US Senator Lisa Murkowski and Alaska Governor Sean Parnell were among the group guided through the ice-class drilling barge Kulluk and drillship ­Noble Discoverer located at their staging area in Seattle harbor.

“It’s inspiring to see the Kulluk up close and know that it’s on the verge of opening a new era of Arctic exploration that promises to deliver greater energy security and economic prosperity to Alaska and the nation,” said Murkowski.
