BG Group planning pre-salt FSO

BG Group of the UK is working on a plan for a large floating storage and offloading vessel as part of a novel solution whereby it would take responsibility for exporting its own equity volumes of pre-salt crude oil produced from Petrobras operated fields in the Santos Basin off Brazil.

BG Group has technically pre-qualified SBM Offshore, Modec International and BW Offshore in a competition to potentially supply the FSO.

According to a source, BG Group is offering contractors a 20-year charter option on an FSO with storage room for 2 million barrels of light crude to start operations in 2015 in the Santos basin pre-salt province.

BG Group has minority stakes in the Lula and Sapinhoa fields, which hold combined recoverable volumes of about 10.5 billion barrels of oil equivalent, plus interests ranging from 20% to 40% in major pre-salt discoveries such…
