Pemex mobilises semisubs for Gulf exploration

PEMEX this week mobilised the Seadrill-owned West Pegasus and IPC-owned Bicentenario semi-submersible rigs to spud the first two wells in the company’s much anticipated deep-water exploration programme in the Perdido Fold-Belt in the Gulf of Mexico, writes Tom Darin Liskey.

Sources confirmed that Pemex will begin operations on the Supremus-1 and Trion-1 wildcats by this weekend at the latest. The Trion wildcat has the deeper objectives of the two, with a proposed total depth of 7529 metres.

The Bicentenario will be anchored in water depths of 2535 metres to drill the probe. The Supremus probe has objectives 4000 metres below the seabed and will be drilled by the West Pegasus in 2900 metres of water depth.
