South set to sign deal

AN OIL, gas and commodities deal which would resolve contradictions in South Sudan’s upstream policy could be signed by President Salva Kiir before the end of the month, according to an aide of Deputy Commander-in-Chief of South Sudan Armed Forces General Paulino Matip.

Matip is due to arrive in Juba later this week following extended convalescence in Nairobi, Kenya, along with senior figures from New York-based Jarch Capital which signed Matip up to the deal when he led the rebel South Sudan defence Force (SSDF).

Matip agreed under the 2006 Juba Declaration to join forces with the Sudan People’s Liberation Army only on condition the deal he signed would transfer with him.
