Husky drill rig tender sparks yard slots hunt

A TENDER from Calgary-based Husky Energy for a suitable rig to drill off Canada has sparked fresh enquiries for the construction of harsh-environment semi-submersible drilling unit.

Husky issued a tender two weeks ago, following a market survey last December, for a semisub for development and delineation wells in less than 130 metres of water, and potentially some exploration wells in up to 450 metres of water, on the Grand Banks of Newfoundland and Labrador.

The market survey was initially for a newbuild or an existing unit less than ten years old.
