BP set to get back to Libya

UK SUPERMAJOR BP is set to resume onshore and offshore exploratory drilling for gas in Libya before the end of 2013, hoping to find reserves large enough to justify liquefaction facilities for export, writes Vahe Petrossian.

“Barring something unforeseen, drilling will start next year,” a source close to the project told Upstream.

The company last month lifted its February 2011 force majeure, declared at the start of the anti-Gaddafi revolt, and reaffirmed its commitment to the $2 billion exploration project. However, continuing security and other problems cast strong doubts on its ability to resume work anytime soon.

Ealier this month senior company officials flew over the site of a hastily abandoned land rig in the Ghadames basin and were able to confirm that the structure is essentially intact.
