Statoil eyes on Harpoon

STATOIL Canada is gearing up to begin a three-well drilling programme off Newfoundland & Labrador in the fourth quarter that will start in the Flemish Pass, writes Tonya Zelinsky.

The first well will be drilled on its Harpoon lease, about 20 kilometres south-southeast of the Mizzen discovery in the Flemish Pass, by the end of 2012. It will be followed by a well at Cupids, also in the Flemish Pass about 80 kilometres north of Mizzen. The third well will be on the Federation lease in the Jeanne d’Arc basin.

“From Statoil’s perspective off Newfoundland is highly prospective,” Atle Aadland, the recently-appointed vice president of Statoil’s east coast operations, said.
