Shah Deniz partners have two choices for export route

The BP-led Shah Deniz consortium in Azerbaijan has narrowed down its gas export routes to ­Europe to Nabucco West and the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP), planning to choose one of the two by mid-2013.

By selecting the revised ­Nabucco ­West proposal to pit against the TAP route in the south, the consortium dropped its own South East Europe Pipeline (SEEP) proposal of last year.

“This decision was made on the basis of the… selection criteria ­announced in 2011,” BP said.

“In particular, the greater maturity of Nabucco West gave the consortium confidence that this project could be developed and ­delivered on the same timeline as Shah Deniz stage two.”
