CNOOC plans afoot to build FPSO for Liuhua

CHINA National Offshore Oil Corporation is firming up plans to build a new floating production, storage and offloading vessel to develop the Liuhua 16-2 oilfield in the South China Sea.

Assuming the project goes ahead, this will be the second floater the company has chosen to develop a find in the sea area, ­following the decision to build an FPSO to develop Enping field.

In a pre-feasibility study to be wrapped up at the end of this month, CNOOC has decided to build a 100,000 deadweight-tonne floater to develop Liuhua 16-2 that will be connected to a subsea production system in water depths of 400 metres, sources said.

The feasibility study is being conducted by CNOOC Research Institute.
