Surestream paves way for large Burundi plan

UK EXPLORER Surestream Petroleum is preparing a large 2D seismic campaign covering acreage in Burundi as it builds up a sizeable position in the Great Lakes region, where it also holds two blocks in Malawi.

The converted United Nations fisheries vessel Tanganyika Explorer will by early October begin a tight-grid 5000-kilometre 2D seismic survey over the deep waters of Lake Tanganyika, covering Burundi blocks B and D, said Surestream chief executive Chris Pitman.

Pitman also told Upstream that the company is planning to start work as soon as next month on Malawi blocks 2 and 3 when results from a $1 million environmental impact assessment are expected. The two blocks are on Lake Malawi (formerly Lake Nyasa).
